Scholarship Foundation
In several ways, we help promote the next generation of homebuilders and associated trades. One way is our scholarship foundation, and the other is our participation in Building Trades Night for area high schools. Collectively, high school students with an interest in the building trades in the Penn-Harris-Madison, Mishawaka and South Bend school districts join us for a fun evening to learn about the challenges, opportunities and satisfaction of pursuing this career choice.
Rebuilding Together / Christmas in April
One of our more satisfying community projects
is the national Rebuilding Together Program, formerly known as
Christmas in April. In 2010 we will be working on 27 homes in the
Marquette/Keller neighborhood. We like to have "Neighborhoods" so
we can not only help the individual families, but improve the entire
neighborhood. Volunteer day is April 17, 2010. If you would like to
volunteer email Mike Everett at
roseinfo1@aol.com. This is our 11th year volunteering our time and
materials. HBA members serve on the steering committee to help direct
and ensure it achieves its goals.
Toys for Tots
Each year, the Home Builders Association of St. Joseph Valley helps to make the holidays a bit brighter for children in our community by teaming up with the Marines for the annual Toys for Tots drive. In doing so, we help gather toys and provide them to children who might otherwise receive few or no gifts at this special time of year. It gives us a great deal of satisfaction to see smiling faces and know that hearts are happier—theirs as well as ours.
Golf Outing
The 2010 HBA/SJV Golf Outing will be held July
27th at Juday Creek. Shotgun start 1:00 p.m. with registration and lunch at
11:30 a.m. A Post Event celebration follows. Several levels of sponsorship opportunities support this event. For information on participating in the Golf Outing or providing sponsorship, call the HBA office, at 574.258.0411. Proceeds raised from the Golf Outing benefit the HBA/SJV’s advocacy work on the local and state levels.
